We believe that a safe and affordable home in a diverse, thriving community is the foundation for building a successful life. Without a home that is healthy and affordable, people with low incomes are hard pressed to save money and plan for the future, or succeed in jobs, education or raising a family.
But many hardworking New Yorkers are homeless, or are spending such a large percentage of their income on housing – often unsafe, unstable housing – that they cannot afford groceries, health care, child care or transportation.
And that’s only part of the problem.
Market-rate housing and real estate development are complicated. But affordable housing is even more complicated. It takes a complex web of financial, community, business and governmental partnerships to create just one affordable home.
Enterprise tackles all the obstacles that stand in the way of creating safe, healthy and affordable homes.
Since opening our office in 1987, Enterprise has invested more than $2.3 billion to create or preserve over 35,000 affordable homes for 116,000 people in New York City – more than any other organization.
